Underwater Photography: Does the Camera Really Matter?

The camera does NOT matter. Many days I get asked if I need to obtain Nikon, Canon, this design or that product… what you must be asking is what kind of lenses you want for the sort of photography you want to just take. Of course, I’m chatting here about DSLR cameras (far more about point and shoot beneath). Expend significantly less funds in the body that has the functions you are searching for, and invest the rest of your money in superior lenses. A very very good high priced camera with affordable lenses will deliver reduced high quality photos revert the purchase and you have a terrific mix.

When it comes to brand it really does not matter either. Most photographers acquire a single brand more than the other because they have some lenses presently or they like the colours of the advertising and marketing. The truth is that all cameras these days can provide terrific photographs if used with high top quality lenses… so pick your brand and go buy a entire body that can get you excellent uncomplicated manage around shutter velocity, f-stops, ISO, white stability and has a good photometer (which is not as important underwater as it is over the drinking water). When it arrives down to sensor measurement then you have to determine between Entire Format (FX – sensor dimensions equals to 35mm) or crop format (DX – which is 1.5x on a Nikon and one.6x on a Canon). FX is substantially more high priced that DX and to me it does not make sense to devote the further dollars… I relatively spend the difference in great lenses.

Never get caught in the Mega-pixel advertising campaign! A lot more mega-pixels do not indicate far better pics. Much better lenses means superior photographs once again: expend your funds in excellent excellent lenses and overlook the mega-pixel and camera capabilities scheme. Some of my favorites Nikon D3100, 5100, D7000 or Canon Rebel T3, T3i or 60D. Really don’t discard older cameras that are awesome like the Nikon D40 with a flash sync speed one/500 which you can get on eBay affordable these days (same goes for older Canon).

Of training course I’m new in underwater photography, but I researched a lot of lenses ahead of buying a method. I certainly enjoy my Tokina ten-17mm fish-eye which is deemed a terrific DX lens that has amazing sharpness. Just about every underwater technique must have this lens for large angle and of study course if you would like macro a 60mm 2.8. If you have some some spare dollars go for a 105mm as very well, but absolutely have those two lenses in your underwater camera box. I’m also a entertaining of extensive angle photography on land and I truly believe that if you need to have zoom lenses is mainly because you are not close sufficient to your subject, but that is just a make a difference of choice.

Now how about level and shoot cameras? Most level and shoot camera have no interchangeable lenses. If you have to settle for a level and shoot camera, acquire a camera that enables you to management shutter speed, aperture (f-stops), ISO and customized white stability manually. If you have the funds go for a single that makes it possible for you to adjust lenses, but If I have to spend $one thousand for a point and shoot, I would rather obtain a DSLR and one particular superior lens which is probable in that price range. Some of my popular point and shoot cameras are the Canon S95 and Canon G12 now hold an eye on your finances as a Nikon D40 entire body can be purchased for $250 on eBay and a Tokina ten-17 fish-eye for about $600 which will get you very near to the significant finish position and shoot cameras and you would have a killer setup.

If I would have to purchase a camera for underwater use, I would decide on DSLR. Brand name and Characteristics does not issue. I would expend the income on lenses. If my spending budget is receiving to high following such as housing and strobes, then I would acquire a position and shoot that has entire Manual mode. I purchase my devices from Sink or Swim scuba right here in Nanaimo they can actually give you a great deal in many underwater housing, strobes and arms systems out there.

Here are some deals for you that I like (adjust the housing for your brand and/or lens)
